When Coincidences Occur You Are On The Right Track

When coincidences occur, you are on the right path

You only know when you’re on the right track. Coincidences occur one by one and lead you forward and your heart is filled with satisfaction. You become enthusiastic because all your efforts finally yield the results you have been longing for. When your mind focuses on what it wants, it ultimately does not happen by chance. They happen because of determination.

Everyone has experienced a similar feeling, where almost without knowing how it happens, small things start to happen. They may be related to each other. No matter what, they seem to fit into our plan.

Mathematicians Persi Diaconis and Frederick Mosteller of the University of California , Berkeley, explained in a 1989 study that we should not pay too much attention to when coincidences occur. They stated that they are only rare events with low reliability. They also stated that coincidences almost never help us to predict anything.

But since the end of the 1980s, the idea of how coincidences occur has changed a lot. Bernard Beitman, a psychiatrist at the University of Virginia , wrote a very interesting book entitled Connecting With Coincidence , in which he explains that these random events sometimes trace our own destinies.

Edmund Halley, an English astronomer from the eighteenth century, realized something. He explained that other astronomers’ records reported various occurrences of certain comets in Earth’s orbit. Astronomers classified the comets as “pure coincidences”, but in reality they were not coincidences at all.

Halley dared to predict that these comets corresponded to a lone comet that appeared every 75 years. He guessed right. He himself saw that the comet passed according to his own calculations on Christmas Eve 1758. Sometimes several concentrated events can give us a clue about something. We can only understand this something with openness, confidence and determination.

Coincidence in the starry sky

When you are on the road, you have a predetermined goal. Studying for an exam, looking for resources for a project, finding stability in a problematic relationship or overcoming a personal problem… All of these things require a series of very precise movements aimed at the same goal.

At different times in our life cycle, each of us is required to make some effort to trace that plan. We all want happiness and stability. It is an important part of our sense of self-realization and personal development. Therefore,  an important aspect that we can not, nor should we exclude in this part of life, is precisely when coincidences occur.

Dr. Josh Tenenbaum is a researcher and cognitive psychologist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He explains that although these events sometimes lack logic and are nothing more than random events, in some cases these coincidences are  as revealing as they are indispensable in our lives.

Dr. Tenenbaum explains that coincidences drive many of the conclusions in our minds. In fact, our brain is programmed to detect any abnormal and temporary stimuli. It tries to create associations to understand the new thing and encourage new learning.

  • David Spiegelhalter, a statistician at the University of Cambridge , has spent years studying coincidences. According to him, we can only understand coincidences with an adequate statistical analysis.
  • It is through this method that we can realize one aspect: the most striking cases have to do with our social relationships. An example of this is when we coincide in different places with the person who will be our future partner. Another example is when we meet someone who by chance proposes new projects that it results in us becoming a part of, just when we were looking for a change. Another example is when we perceive how we develop in our personal projects thanks to the fact that we connect with others who share the same goals.

On the other hand, an interesting aspect of Professor Spiegelhalter’s work is that there is very little correlation between wanting something and expecting the event to occur. That is, only when we take action and get involved in different situations can we begin to create these coincidences. If we sit still, nothing will happen.

Cosmos in hands

As we have been able to deduce, coincidences are consequences of chance. They are also the result of the impulse we generate with our personal and mental disposition. All of this encourages us to understand certain aspects that are worth reflecting on.

  • When you are on the right track, the events you create and the random events will be collected and mixed. An example of this is researchers and researchers. In their daily analyzes and experiments, they often use temporary, known facts that enable them to reach amazing discoveries.
  • You are also on the right track when your mind is open to everything that is happening in your environment. When you are aware of and have a curious brain that wants to learn and find stimuli, you can see the true coincidences of life. These are events that take us where we want to go.
  • Another aspect to consider is that, in turn, there are times when negative coincidences occur in our lives. For example, getting sick on the day we have a big event or having a technical break during an important presentation of a project. As awful as these unfortunate events may feel, we should remember that they are still normal. We should expect that bad things can happen in our daily lives sometimes.
  • A coincidence can be positive, negative or neutral. What really counts after all is how we decide to handle that event. How we do it, our response, our mental focus and how we behave after the event is what really determines our fate.
Man walking on a road

In conclusion, Albert Einstein said that life in itself is a wonderful coincidence. Knowing how to live it in the best possible way requires firm willpower and receptivity. We should apply the positive personal outlook. Do not ignore all the possibilities that gravitate around you every day.
