The flawed house: a story to reflect on

The story of the defective house is about the fact that there was once a hopeful man who did not make much money. He was hopeful in the sense that he had always imagined a better future for himself. He was a good, hard-working man who was always disciplined and always did everything he had to do, without taking too many breaks. His goal was to make more money, to be able to support his family and to live comfortably.

This man had only temporary, underpaid jobs. Because of this, his family had to live in poverty and financial difficulties. The story of the defective house tells that the man’s wife always blamed him for their situation. She always blamed her husband for not earning enough money. They had almost nothing to eat and could never buy clothes or other essentials.  Thus, the man was always sad and worried.

A possibility

According to the story of the defective house, a successful businessman opened a large furniture factory in the city where they lived. The man was the first to apply for one of the positions. He hoped that this would make his wife appreciate his hard work.

Although the man was not educated, the businessman saw that he was a decent and hard-working person. Therefore, he decided to hire him and offer him a good salary.

The man and his wife were ecstatic. A new phase in their lives began at that moment. There was always food in the pantry and their children could focus on their studies. Broadly speaking, their lives changed for the better.

An unexpected change

According to history, the man tried to do his job in the best possible way. Thanks to this, he soon became the foremost carpenter. His family had everything they ever wanted, so they started wasting money on unnecessary things. They no longer bought only what they needed, but also sumptuous furniture that did not really fit into their humble home.

But in the story of the defective house, one day the factory owner realized that his business was not making enough profit. Realizing this, he decided to close the factory and start a new business elsewhere. Easily caught, easily passed away. The family in this story began to get into financial trouble again. Despite this, the talented man soon found a new job. He became a bricklayer in a construction company and began earning a modest salary.

His wife and children, who by then were already used to a better life, blamed the man. They did not want to go back to square one and start over. Thus, the man decided to request a salary increase. His boss told him it was impossible at the moment, but that he would consider giving him a raise in the future if he worked hard enough.

The story of the defective house: a reflection

The good man told his family what his boss had told him, which upset them. They reminded him of how hard he had worked at the furniture factory, which still did not even matter in the end because the company went bankrupt anyway. His family told him he should learn from the past and not work so hard. That after all, they could fire him at any time even if he worked well.

First, the man in our story ignored what his family had told him. But in time, their words began to convince him. What was the point of making such an effort? From that day on, he stopped working. He built houses with the worst materials available and did not pay any attention to the details.

After working for many years, he finally decided to retire. When he informed his boss of his decision, the boss asked him to build one last house. He built the last house reluctantly and with hardly any interest. He only had his pension in mind. When he was done, the manager came to inspect the house, gave him the keys, and said, “This home is for you.”
