Interview with Marcelo Ceberio about the importance of perseverance

In this interview with Marcelo Ceberio, you will learn more about the concept of endurance. In Life must have meaning, Viktor Frankl describes the transcendence of self-worth in our lives.

Having perseverance can influence your well-being and strengthen your self-esteem. Marcelo Ceberio sees perseverance from a systemic perspective and a relational approach.

The psychosocial resources you use to deal with your barriers are not the only important thing. Your surrounding environment also has an impact.

This valuable and interesting approach can help you learn more about endurance. You can now see it as a synergistic combination of biological aspects and your emotional intelligence.

Let’s look at what Marcelo Ceberio has to say about this.

What is perseverance?

One can define the importance of perseverance as man’s ability to survive difficult times.

When you feel vulnerable to things, a persistent person can use their resources to respond, adapt and overcome difficulties.

What can you tell us about perseverance from a systemic point of view?

The importance of perseverance is a relational concept. It happens when you interact with other people and you have to rely on yourself to face your problems.

When it comes to one’s endurance, what is most important: personal or environmental resources?

Personal resources are those that you already have, those that come from yourself and that develop with each interaction with others and with the problems you face.

The environment and the context are of course very important. It is a motivation that strengthens your endurance resources.

I could say that both are relevant because one influences the other to strengthen or diminish itself.

I am me because you are you, which means that your identity comes from your interactions. You are the interaction with a context. actions, situations, personal resources, biology and related sentences.

All this makes you enduring.

Is caring related to the importance of perseverance?

Caring is important, not only for a sustainable person but also for life itself. I always say that there are four elements in nature: air, fire, water and earth.

In human territory you have a fifth element: love. Love is enduring and what keeps us from suffering disasters. You are a relational being, you need others to survive.

This relationship has been shown in the findings from a Harvard study on adult development. It is a research project from 1938 that has continuously examined the lives of 700 men and women and in some cases also their partners.

This study, which is also the longest longitudinal study in history, shows that the importance of living comes from our relationships. You need to have close relationships.

It is a fact that the happiest and most mentally healthy people share a strong bond with their families and friends.

One of the study leaders, Waldinger, points out the importance of having good quality relationships and that you avoid relationships with conflicts and focus on the healthy ones.

Having many friends will not make you the happiest person in the world, but the quality of your relationships can. It is not about quantity, but about quality.

It is also important that you can put yourself in other people’s situation and that you can be empathetic and understand them. This is a way to reduce conflicts and live a better life.

This will help you understand the good in every situation, get rid of the trauma and see the positive in every situation.

I should add, however, that there are certain situations where it is sometimes difficult to see that the glass is half full, such as when you suffer disasters, for example.

Do you think that someone without strong ties can still have endurance? How?

Affection, a concept coined on the 40th roof by J. Bowlby, believes that in order to survive, man must at least have contact with an important person in life.

Not just someone who feeds us, but someone who protects us and shows us affection.

Affection does not only involve emotions, but is also an interaction concept, and feelings of affection can thus stay with you throughout life and make you feel stronger.

Insecure people with relationship problems often do not feel loved as children and lack the support that can give them self-confidence and self-esteem.

That biological and emotional interactive style can be developed later, but it can also be learned and systematized earlier.

B. Cirulnyk, one of the authors who has worked most with endurance, talks about endurance teachers who are emotional support and guides who help you get over difficult situations.

It is also important to be aware that caring figures are not just your parents, partners, friends, etc. Movies, quotes, stories, books and songs can also stimulate and generate motivation.

If you have had certain affections, it will make it easier for you to motivate yourself.

This is the true result of affection: to make you stronger so that you can face the problems of life.

It will also give you the ability to be rescued by people in the adult world, get help and get support to get over conflicts.

The Importance of Perseverance: How Does Your Self-Esteem Affect Your Ability to Be Sustainable?

Self-esteem and perseverance are two concepts that are related to each other.

A person whose personal self-praise is balanced is also strong and has enough resources to deal with the problems that arise.

These people know when to ask for help and surround themselves with positive people who can guide them.

You may sometimes be unaware of these abilities depending on how you look at yourself.

I define self-esteem as self-awareness to recognize my resources and my weaknesses because by knowing that I am vulnerable, I will also become stronger.

How can a person deal with a lack of self-esteem and insecurities?

A lack of self-esteem and a feeling of insecurity are two often related aspects. If you lack self-esteem, you will feel insecure. Your insecurity lowers your self-esteem and you will get caught in a vicious circle.

To get over insecurity and lack of self-esteem, you have to stop doing things just to make others like you or care about you. Self-esteem is a process that begins internally, and not the other way around.

People who are not appreciated try to do things for others in secret to gain recognition, and do not realize that they put the desires of others before their own just to get a hug or for others to express their gratitude.

They become machos, wonder women, paramedics, firefighters, perfect students, victims, just to get a dose of self-esteem with each interaction. This does not work.

You become someone without self-esteem, like a bag filled with holes. You try to fill it, but you can not.

Yes, everyone wants to be praised and heard how good they are, no matter how smart they are, but it can also be pathological.

Look within yourself and make a list of your virtues and defects. Try to understand who you are with all your weaknesses and strengths, as this will give you a greater self-esteem.

Put yourself first, give without expecting anything in return, do the things you enjoy doing, ask for things and spend time with people who show you true affection and who encourage you every day.

Some people have had really bad experiences in life, but they are silent. Why?

It is difficult to point out just one thing with these types of people.

It’s still a mystery. Man has survived war, concentration camps, family relationships, famine and other vulnerable situations. They all have a natural ability to survive.

Perseverance is a synergistic pool of biological abilities (neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, endorphins, hippocampus which is the learning center with available ad hoc information, good development of mirror hormones that help you be empathetic).

It also includes emotional intelligence (just as Goleman said about the five components of intelligence: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social abilities).

Furthermore, creative elements (the right hemisphere) are required to see the positive side of things, creativity to find a way out of problems and empathic abilities to create healthy bonds.

A persistent person has a cognitive attitude that structures a sequence of positive thoughts. These positive thoughts channel the negative ones that traumatize and infect our emotions.

It is also an evolutionary process. There are enduring adults who have created a method to identify what makes them enduring.

Parents with difficult lives who come across painful situations have motivated their children to also be persistent. They have given them the resources to deal with any problems they may encounter.

These are qualities that I have noticed in enduring people.

The Importance of Perseverance: Is There a Type of Sustainable Personality?

That is a good question! I think there is a persistent personality or at least a tendency to be persistent. Some people simply have a special ability to survive and understand the importance of endurance.

Perseverance can, however, be created and stimulated. In psychotherapy, we create perseverance. We strengthen the resources of some people so that they can develop an ability to overcome the problems they encounter.

This means that it is easier for people who have the resources to solve and overcome disasters, but others need a little help or motivation to create such survival tools.
