Have You Ever Wanted To Save Yourself From Your Past?

Have you ever wanted to save yourself from your past?

Have you ever felt that you wanted to save yourself from your past? Or that you wanted to go back and fix problems in the past, even though they have no bearing on your current situation? Do you think that your former self does not fit into who you really are?

This feeling has to do with people hiding a certain fragility. Our emotional memory, found in the amygdala, plays tricks on us. We want to be at peace with our past, to say things we never said and take command of our personality.

It is difficult for us to accept that we are who we are. You should embrace your past instead of trying to fix it. You do not have to save everything from your past to stay afloat today. You just have to keep swimming with the luggage you have picked up.

Maybe your backpack is full of knowledge from lessons from your past. Or maybe it’s crammed with rocks that threaten to sink you. Heavy stones of “I should have…” or “what if I had…”

It is not a good idea to try to untie the knots in your past to try to save yourself. Every day we take risks and make mistakes, but we also learn. Even if you do not learn anything, it does not mean that you should let past mistakes deprive you of enjoyment in life.

When you try to pull a thread from the past, you will only get more entangled. Some threads are interconnected, others just get tangled up and dissolve what you have already accomplished. Maybe it’s better to pick up the needles and continue weaving.

If you try to get out of the hole by digging more, you will only dig deeper. If you want to untie the knot, you will be caught. You will never be able to erase the story of your life.

Learning from the past

Imagine digging and digging to try to get out of the hole you are in. That’s how it is every time you try to get answers from your past. You waste time choosing the perfect tool to dig yourself out.

You will never know why you did not meet certain challenges, because your peace is so great now. Because it was, in fact, just that challenge that helped you develop your current peace.

When we go through life and build our identity, we sometimes have to answer “why”. But most of the time we just try to keep ourselves safe. The difference lies in two important points:

  • If you need to answer questions to regain something valuable you have lost, look for healing explanations. You want to clarify something from the past to improve your present.
  • If you need to talk about something from the past to justify it, look better or hurt someone who let you down, you want to protect your ego. You do not spend time building anything.

You do not have to save yourself from your past. There is no need to find answers to questions whose expiration date has already passed. You are here and now. So stop digging and instead use your tools to plant seeds, fertilize the soil and water your garden so that it can grow.

Trying to find answers from your past just because of your ego will only make the present worse. So stop digging yourself deeper, and plant something beautiful instead. If you are going to save yourself, do it here and now.
